What is list of English Words?

Basically, language experts and researchers recommend that any English language learner must know important words, words which occur very often in English texts and spoken language.

General Service List of English words (West, 1953). Many western researchers share a common consensus that the high frequency 2,000 words account for 85% and more, written words in any text.

List of English words for ESL learners contains most common words used in English. However, these basic English words you must know in depth and breadth not mere definition. As an example, word able and ability belong together,

Able as an adjective has many usages like a) Able bodied, An able man, Able to take care of


Ability as noun also has many uses like a) A Man of great ability ( cleverness), Musical ability, (Power) ability to learn

Oxford English Dictionary publishes new word updates and revised word meanings, on March, June,September and December every year. For instance, in March 2012, it added:
bit bucket n. An An imaginary trash location, example, "it fell into the bit bucket" means the data was lost.
